How do I create different sidebars for different WordPress posts? Do I have to code?

Don’t worry! To customize your sidebars, you won’t have to write a single line of code. It only takes a WordPress plugin to make miracles these days! For this guide, we decided to showcase a very popular plugin called “Custom Sidebars.” WPMU Dev Team designed this excellent plugin, and there are currently over 200000 active installs of it. The popularity of the “Custom Sidebars” plugin lies in its ease of use. Even novice WordPress users will be able to customize their sidebars (and footer bars) to create unique pages and posts. Let’s see how you can also install and use the plugin to customize your posts’ and pages’ sidebars.

Custom Sidebars Installation and Configuration

To use this powerful plugin just follow these easy steps:

Step 1: Log in to your WordPress Dashboard.

Step 2: Navigate to Plugins >> Add New.

Step 3: Locate the search box at the top right-hand corner of your screen. Type the words ” Custom Sidebars” in the box and hit the Return button on your keyboard.

Step 4:  Locate the “Custom Sidebars” plugin, install and activate it.

Step 5: Once the installation process is complete and the plugin is activated, navigate to Appearance >> Widgets.

Step 8: Populate your newly created sidebar by adding any widgets you desire. You can, for example, add a new arbitrary text widget in which you comment something inside your content or share a link. Look at the following image to find out how. When you’ve finished populating your sidebar, click “Save.”

Step 9: Let’s create a new post to demonstrate how to use your new sidebar. Navigate to Posts >> Add New.

Step 10: Once your post is ready, scroll down your page until you find the sidebars meta box to the right of your screen. This is a box created by the “Custom Sidebars” plugin. From this box, you can define where your custom sidebar will appear on your post. The number of your options here depends on how many sidebars your theme supports. In our case, the theme of our demo website supports only three sidebars. So, to replace the default sidebar with the one you have created in Step 8, just open the drop-down menu next to the Sidebar attribute and pick your custom one. If you need assistance, check the picture below.  Once you’re done, click Publish. Your new post contains a custom sidebar that is unique and different from the default sidebars that appear everywhere else on your website.

Can I change the default footer of my site using the “Custom Sidebars” plugin?

Of course! This powerful plugin can create custom footers also. For those who don’t know what a footer is, it’s the tiny sidebar at the bottom of your WordPress site. To change the way your footer looks just follow the steps 1 to 9 presented above. On the last step, however, instead of messing with the Sidebar drop-down menu, you should change the “Content Bottom 1” option or the “Footer” option. You can also change your sidebar and your footer bar if you like. Just create your desired sidebars and add them as you’ve already learned.

Can the “Custom Sidebars” plugin change the sidebars of my Pages too?

Yes! This plugin is so great that it can change your sidebars on any page or post of your WordPress website. It can also modify the sidebars in your archive or category pages allowing you to create unique and informative pages.

What more can this plugin do for me?

The “Custom Sidebars” plugin allows you to perform batch customization of your posts and pages. You can, for example, define some categories or some post types on which your custom sidebars will appear. This way you won’t have to change the sidebars on every existing post or page separately. To do this follow the instructions below:

Step 1: Navigate to Appearance >> Widgets.

Step 2: Locate your custom sidebars.

Step 3: Click on the “Sidebars location” button at the bottom of your sidebar box, as shown in the picture below.
